When The General first strapped a mic to a makeshift stand in a Kingston yard, the music was honest and immediate — raw rhythms, story-driven lyrics, and a sound shaped by weekends at sound system dances and late-night studio runs. Those early recordings, often done between odd jobs and family duties, taught a lesson that still guides every decision: do it for culture, not just the charts. Over the last decade that ethic carried The General from cassette copies handed out at dances to a disciplined independent approach — building a home studio, learning production basics, and teaming with a small circle of producers who understand the value of roots and modern energy. The result is music that honors where we come from while speaking to listeners from London to Lagos and Toronto.

In 2025 we saw that labor of love translate into broader, quieter victories. Streaming numbers grew steadily as playlist curators and independent radio picked up singles that marry vintage reggae warmth with contemporary dancehall cadence. More importantly, the community around The General matured: street teams in Europe, grassroots promoters in Africa, and elders back in Jamaica who nod with approval at how the music keeps Jamaican language and stories alive. Looking ahead to 2026 there’s a new album in the works that leans deeper into live instrumentation and collaborative writing, plus a planned spring tour hitting intimate venues and cultural festivals where the dance is real and the conversation stays true. We’re also expanding outreach — workshops in Kingston on songwriting and studio basics, and partnerships with youth programs that use music to open doors. To the fans who have been on the road, and to those still discovering us mid-playlist, thank you: your voices and messages shape this next chapter. Expect more videos filmed in the yard, stripped-back sessions that reveal the skeleton of the songs, and shows where the energy is the lead instrument. Stay tuned, keep the culture loud, and come experience the next stage of The General’s journey — it’s built on roots, responsibility, and the relentless determination to make Jamaican music that travels and returns home renewed.
