The past few months have been a heavy season of creativity for The General Da Jamaican Boy. We released the Riddim Road EP — a tight, roots-meets-modern set that pairs conscious lyrics with club-ready percussion — and backed it with a handful of singles that have already become crowd favourites. “Island Hustle” arrived with a sun-drenched video shot in Kingston’s street markets, while the dancehall cut “Run Di Place” opened up the sound system sets at weekend shows. Collaborations with up-and-coming vocalists and a remix series from dub producers kept the energy moving, and a surprise live session at a small Kingston studio captured the raw spirit fans love: no autopilot, just voice, riddim and real talk.
On the platform side, big thanks are due: we crossed the one-million-stream mark across DSPs, picked up new playlist placements on key reggae and world-music lists, and saw a steady rise in followers on social channels. Beyond numbers, the story is community — local radio spins, support from sound-system selectors, and shout-outs from fellow artists have kept the momentum authentic. We celebrated with a limited merch drop featuring artwork by a Kingston painter, hosted an in-person listening night that doubled as a pop-up shop, and launched a fan remix contest that brought raw talent into the spotlight. Off-stage, The General’s team partnered with a community centre to run songwriting and production workshops for young people, and committed a portion of merch proceeds to a music-scholarship fund. Looking ahead: expect a small run of vinyl, a short tour through Jamaica and diaspora dates to follow, more visuals, and a few surprise releases. If you’re part of this movement — streaming, sharing, coming out to shows, or passing the riddim to a friend — know that every step is valued. Keep an eye on socials for contest winners, drop restocks, and the next single date; there’s more coming, and it’s for the people who carry reggae and dancehall in their bones.
